The sultan used castrated men from Africa to be guards. They were used to protect the women in the sultan's Haram. It is interesting the way the Sultan treated the women of his family. It is interesting the intrigue that both men and women engaged in to further their goals of power and wealth. Any of the sultan's children even from slave wives could become sultan. Promotion from slave mother to first mothers occured and got to leave on harem to another. A kind of a victory.
